Verse 1
وَٱلصَّـٰۤفَّـٰتِ صَفࣰّا
Pronunciation
Wassaaaffaati saffaa
Translation
By those [angels] lined up in rows
Verse 2
فَٱلزَّ ٰجِرَ ٰتِ زَجۡرࣰا
Pronunciation
Fazzaajiraati zajraa
Translation
And people who drive [the clouds]
Verse 3
فَٱلتَّـٰلِیَـٰتِ ذِكۡرًا
Pronunciation
Fattaaliyaati Zikra
Translation
And people who recite the message,
Verse 4
إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمۡ لَوَ ٰحِدࣱ
Pronunciation
Inna Illaahakum la Waahid
Translation
Indeed, your God is One,
Verse 5
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلۡمَشَـٰرِقِ
Pronunciation
Rabbus samaawaati wal ardi wa maa bainahumaa wa Rabbul mashaariq
Translation
Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.
Verse 6
إِنَّا زَیَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَاۤءَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا بِزِینَةٍ ٱلۡكَوَاكِبِ
Pronunciation
Innaa zaiyannas samaaa 'ad dunyaa bizeenatinil kawaakib
Translation
Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars
Verse 7
وَحِفۡظࣰا مِّن كُلِّ شَیۡطَـٰنࣲ مَّارِدࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa hifzam min kulli Shaitaanim maarid
Translation
And as protection against every rebellious devil
Verse 8
لَّا یَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَإِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ وَیُقۡذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبࣲ
Pronunciation
Laa yassamma 'oona ilal mala il a'alaa wa yuqzafoona min kulli jaanib
Translation
[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,
Verse 9
دُحُورࣰاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابࣱ وَاصِبٌ
Pronunciation
Duhooranw wa lahum 'azaabunw waasib
Translation
Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,
Verse 10
إِلَّا مَنۡ خَطِفَ ٱلۡخَطۡفَةَ فَأَتۡبَعَهُۥ شِهَابࣱ ثَاقِبࣱ
Pronunciation
Illaa man khatifal khatfata fa atba'ahoo shihaabun saaqib
Translation
Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].
Verse 11
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَهُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَم مَّنۡ خَلَقۡنَاۤۚ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُم مِّن طِینࣲ لَّازِبِۭ
Pronunciation
Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnaa; innaa khalaqnaahum min teenil laazib
Translation
Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay.
Verse 12
بَلۡ عَجِبۡتَ وَیَسۡخَرُونَ
Pronunciation
Bal'ajibta wa yaskharoon
Translation
But you wonder, while they mock,
Verse 13
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا یَذۡكُرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa izaa zukkiroo laa yazkuroon
Translation
And when they are reminded, they remember not.
Verse 14
وَإِذَا رَأَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یَسۡتَسۡخِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa izaa ra aw Aayatinw yastaskhiroon
Translation
And when they see a sign, they ridicule
Verse 15
وَقَالُوۤا۟ إِنۡ هَـٰذَاۤ إِلَّا سِحۡرࣱ مُّبِینٌ
Pronunciation
Wa qaalooo in haazaa illaa sihrum mubeen
Translation
And say, "This is not but obvious magic.
Verse 16
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ
Pronunciation
'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamab'oosoon
Translation
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
Verse 17
أَوَءَابَاۤؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
Pronunciation
Awa aabaa'unal awwaloon
Translation
And our forefathers [as well]?"
Verse 18
قُلۡ نَعَمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ دَ ٰخِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Qul na'am wa antum daakhiroon
Translation
Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."
Verse 19
فَإِنَّمَا هِیَ زَجۡرَةࣱ وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ فَإِذَا هُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa innamaa hiya zajra tunw waahidatun fa izaa hum yanzuroon
Translation
It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
Verse 20
وَقَالُوا۟ یَـٰوَیۡلَنَا هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ
Pronunciation
Qa qaaloo yaa wailanaa haazaa Yawmud-Deen
Translation
They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."
Verse 21
هَـٰذَا یَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Pronunciation
Haazaa Yawmul Faslil lazee kuntum bihee tukaziboon
Translation
[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."
Verse 22
۞ ٱحۡشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزۡوَ ٰجَهُمۡ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ یَعۡبُدُونَ
Pronunciation
Uhshurul lazeena zalamoo wa azwaajahum wa maa kaanoo ya'budoon
Translation
[The angels will be ordered], "Gather people who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship
Verse 23
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهۡدُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَ ٰطِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Min doonil laahi fahdoohum ilaa siraatil Jaheem
Translation
Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire
Verse 24
وَقِفُوهُمۡۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسۡـُٔولُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa qifoohum innahum mas'ooloon
Translation
And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."
Verse 25
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ
Pronunciation
Maa lakum laa tanaasaroon
Translation
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"
Verse 26
بَلۡ هُمُ ٱلۡیَوۡمَ مُسۡتَسۡلِمُونَ
Pronunciation
Bal humul Yawma mustaslimoon
Translation
But they, that Day, are in surrender.
Verse 27
وَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa ba'diny yatasaaa'aloon
Translation
And they will approach one another blaming each other.
Verse 28
قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَأۡتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلۡیَمِینِ
Pronunciation
Qaalooo innakum kuntum taatoonanaa 'anil yameen
Translation
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."
Verse 29
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمۡ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Qaaloo bal lam takoonoo mu'mineen
Translation
The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
Verse 30
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَیۡكُم مِّن سُلۡطَـٰنِۭۖ بَلۡ كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمࣰا طَـٰغِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa maa kaana lanaa 'alaikum min sultaanim bal kuntum qawman taagheen
Translation
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
Verse 31
فَحَقَّ عَلَیۡنَا قَوۡلُ رَبِّنَاۤۖ إِنَّا لَذَاۤىِٕقُونَ
Pronunciation
Fahaqqa 'alainaa qawlu Rabbinaaa innaa lazaaa'iqoon
Translation
So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
Verse 32
فَأَغۡوَیۡنَـٰكُمۡ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِینَ
Pronunciation
Fa aghwainaakum innaa kunnaa ghaaween
Translation
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
Verse 33
فَإِنَّهُمۡ یَوۡمَىِٕذࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَذَابِ مُشۡتَرِكُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa innahum Yawma'izin fil'azaabi mushtarikoon
Translation
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
Verse 34
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ
Pronunciation
Innaa kazaalika naf'alu bil mujrimeen
Translation
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
Verse 35
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوۤا۟ إِذَا قِیلَ لَهُمۡ لَاۤ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Innahum kaanooo izaa qeela lahum laaa ilaaha illal laahu yastakbiroon
Translation
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant
Verse 36
وَیَقُولُونَ أَىِٕنَّا لَتَارِكُوۤا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرࣲ مَّجۡنُونِۭ
Pronunciation
Wa yaqooloona a'innaa lataarikooo aalihatinaa lishaa'irim majnoon
Translation
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
Verse 37
بَلۡ جَاۤءَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ
Pronunciation
bal jaaa'a bilhaqqi wa saddaqal mursaleen
Translation
Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
Verse 38
إِنَّكُمۡ لَذَاۤىِٕقُوا۟ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡأَلِیمِ
Pronunciation
Innakum lazaaa'iqul 'azaabil aleem
Translation
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
Verse 39
وَمَا تُجۡزَوۡنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa maa tujzawna illaa maa kuntum ta'maloon
Translation
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
Verse 40
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ
Pronunciation
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Translation
But not the chosen servants of Allah.
Verse 41
أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ لَهُمۡ رِزۡقࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ
Pronunciation
Ulaaa'ika lahum rizqum ma'loom
Translation
Those will have a provision determined -
Verse 42
فَوَ ٰكِهُ وَهُم مُّكۡرَمُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa waakihu wa hum mukramoon
Translation
Fruits; and they will be honored
Verse 43
فِی جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِیمِ
Pronunciation
Fee jannaatin Na'eem
Translation
In gardens of pleasure
Verse 44
عَلَىٰ سُرُرࣲ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِینَ
Pronunciation
'Alaa sururim mutaqaa bileen
Translation
On thrones facing one another.
Verse 45
یُطَافُ عَلَیۡهِم بِكَأۡسࣲ مِّن مَّعِینِۭ
Pronunciation
Yutaafu 'alaihim bikaasim mim ma'een
Translation
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,
Verse 46
بَیۡضَاۤءَ لَذَّةࣲ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِینَ
Pronunciation
Baidaaa'a laz zatil lish shaaribeen
Translation
White and delicious to the drinkers;
Verse 47
لَا فِیهَا غَوۡلࣱ وَلَا هُمۡ عَنۡهَا یُنزَفُونَ
Pronunciation
Laa feehaa ghawlunw wa laa hum 'anhaa yunzafoon
Translation
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
Verse 48
وَعِندَهُمۡ قَـٰصِرَ ٰتُ ٱلطَّرۡفِ عِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa 'indahum qaasiraatut tarfi 'een
Translation
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,
Verse 49
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَیۡضࣱ مَّكۡنُونࣱ
Pronunciation
Ka annahunna baidum maknoon
Translation
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
Verse 50
فَأَقۡبَلَ بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa aqbala ba'duhum 'alaa badiny yatasaaa 'aloon
Translation
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
Verse 51
قَالَ قَاۤىِٕلࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ إِنِّی كَانَ لِی قَرِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Qaala qaaa'ilum minhum innee kaana lee qareen
Translation
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]
Verse 52
یَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُصَدِّقِینَ
Pronunciation
Yaqoolu a'innnaka laminal musaddiqeen
Translation
Who would say, 'Are you indeed of people who believe
Verse 53
أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِینُونَ
Pronunciation
'A-izaa mitnaa wa kunnaa turaabanw wa 'izaaman 'ainnaa lamadeenoon
Translation
That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"
Verse 54
قَالَ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ
Pronunciation
Qaala hal antum muttali'oon
Translation
He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"
Verse 55
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِی سَوَاۤءِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Fattala'a fara aahu fee sawaaa'il Jaheem
Translation
And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.
Verse 56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرۡدِینِ
Pronunciation
Qaala tallaahi in kitta laturdeen
Translation
He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me.
Verse 57
وَلَوۡلَا نِعۡمَةُ رَبِّی لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُحۡضَرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa law laa ni'matu Rabbee lakuntu minal muhdareen
Translation
If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].
Verse 58
أَفَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَیِّتِینَ
Pronunciation
Afamaa nahnu bimaiyiteen
Translation
Then, are we not to die
Verse 59
إِلَّا مَوۡتَتَنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِینَ
Pronunciation
Illa mawtatanal oola wa maa nahnu bimu'azzabeen
Translation
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"
Verse 60
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِیمُ
Pronunciation
Inna haazaa falya'ma lil'aamiloon
Translation
Indeed, this is the great attainment.
Verse 61
لِمِثۡلِ هَـٰذَا فَلۡیَعۡمَلِ ٱلۡعَـٰمِلُونَ
Pronunciation
Limisli haaza falya'ma lil 'aamiloon
Translation
For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.
Verse 62
أَذَ ٰلِكَ خَیۡرࣱ نُّزُلًا أَمۡ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
Pronunciation
Azaalika khairun nuzulan am shajaratuz Zaqqom
Translation
Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?
Verse 63
إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَـٰهَا فِتۡنَةࣰ لِّلظَّـٰلِمِینَ
Pronunciation
Innaa ja'alnaahaa fitnatal lizzaalimeen
Translation
Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.
Verse 64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةࣱ تَخۡرُجُ فِیۤ أَصۡلِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Innahaa shajaratun takhruju feee aslil Jaheem
Translation
Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,
Verse 65
طَلۡعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّیَـٰطِینِ
Pronunciation
Tal'uhaa ka annahoo ru'oosush Shayaateen
Translation
Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.
Verse 66
فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنۡهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa innahum la aakiloona minhaa famaali'oona minhal butoon
Translation
And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.
Verse 67
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمۡ عَلَیۡهَا لَشَوۡبࣰا مِّنۡ حَمِیمࣲ
Pronunciation
Summa inna lahum 'alaihaa lashawbam min hameem
Translation
Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.
Verse 68
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرۡجِعَهُمۡ لَإِلَى ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Summa inna marji'ahum la ilal Jaheem
Translation
Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.
Verse 69
إِنَّهُمۡ أَلۡفَوۡا۟ ءَابَاۤءَهُمۡ ضَاۤلِّینَ
Pronunciation
Innahum alfaw aabaaa'ahum daaalleen
Translation
Indeed they found their fathers astray.
Verse 70
فَهُمۡ عَلَىٰۤ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمۡ یُهۡرَعُونَ
Pronunciation
Fahum 'alaa aasaarihim yuhra'oon
Translation
So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.
Verse 71
وَلَقَدۡ ضَلَّ قَبۡلَهُمۡ أَكۡثَرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad dalla qablahum aksarul awwaleen
Translation
And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,
Verse 72
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا فِیهِم مُّنذِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad arsalnaa feehim munzireen
Translation
And We had already sent among them warners.
Verse 73
فَٱنظُرۡ كَیۡفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ
Pronunciation
Fanzur kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul munzareen
Translation
Then look how was the end of people who were warned -
Verse 74
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ
Pronunciation
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Translation
But not the chosen servants of Allah.
Verse 75
وَلَقَدۡ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحࣱ فَلَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمُجِیبُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad naadaanaa Noohun falani'mal mujeeboon
Translation
And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.
Verse 76
وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ
Pronunciation
Wa jajainaahu wa ahlahoo minal karbil 'azeem
Translation
And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
Verse 77
وَجَعَلۡنَا ذُرِّیَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلۡبَاقِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa ja'alnaa zurriyyatahoo hummul baaqeen
Translation
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
Verse 78
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡـَٔاخِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
Translation
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Verse 79
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحࣲ فِی ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ
Pronunciation
Salaamun 'alaa Noohin fil 'aalameen
Translation
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
Verse 80
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Verse 81
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
Translation
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Verse 82
ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡـَٔاخَرِینَ
Pronunciation
Summa aghraqnal aakhareen
Translation
Then We drowned the disbelievers.
Verse 83
۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِیعَتِهِۦ لَإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ
Pronunciation
Wa ina min shee'atihee la Ibraaheem
Translation
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,
Verse 84
إِذۡ جَاۤءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلۡبࣲ سَلِیمٍ
Pronunciation
Iz jaaa'a Rabbahoo bi qalbin saleem
Translation
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
Verse 85
إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِیهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعۡبُدُونَ
Pronunciation
Iz qaala li abeehi wa qawmihee maazaa ta'budoon
Translation
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
Verse 86
أَىِٕفۡكًا ءَالِهَةࣰ دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِیدُونَ
Pronunciation
A'ifkan aalihatan doonal laahi tureedoon
Translation
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allah you desire?
Verse 87
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ
Pronunciation
Famaa zannukum bi Rabbil'aalameen
Translation
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
Verse 88
فَنَظَرَ نَظۡرَةࣰ فِی ٱلنُّجُومِ
Pronunciation
Fanazara nazratan finnujoom
Translation
And he cast a look at the stars
Verse 89
فَقَالَ إِنِّی سَقِیمࣱ
Pronunciation
Faqaala inee saqeem
Translation
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
Verse 90
فَتَوَلَّوۡا۟ عَنۡهُ مُدۡبِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Fatawallaw 'anhu mudbireen
Translation
So they turned away from him, departing.
Verse 91
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰۤ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
Pronunciation
Faraagha ilaaa aalihatihim faqaala alaa taakuloon
Translation
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?
Verse 92
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
Pronunciation
Maa lakum laa tantiqoon
Translation
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?"
Verse 93
فَرَاغَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡیَمِینِ
Pronunciation
Faraagha 'alaihim darbam bilyameen
Translation
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
Verse 94
فَأَقۡبَلُوۤا۟ إِلَیۡهِ یَزِفُّونَ
Pronunciation
Fa aqbalooo ilaihi yaziffoon
Translation
Then the people came toward him, hastening.
Verse 95
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ
Pronunciation
Qaala ata'budoona maa tanhitoon
Translation
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
Verse 96
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ
Pronunciation
Wallaahu khalaqakum wa maa ta'maloon
Translation
While Allah created you and that which you do?"
Verse 97
قَالُوا۟ ٱبۡنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنۡیَـٰنࣰا فَأَلۡقُوهُ فِی ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Qaalub noo lahoo bun yaanan fa alqoohu fil jaheem
Translation
They said, "Construct for him a furnace and throw him into the burning fire."
Verse 98
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَیۡدࣰا فَجَعَلۡنَـٰهُمُ ٱلۡأَسۡفَلِینَ
Pronunciation
Fa araadoo bihee kaidan faja 'alnaahumul asfaleen
Translation
And they intended for him a plan, but We made them the most debased.
Verse 99
وَقَالَ إِنِّی ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّی سَیَهۡدِینِ
Pronunciation
Wa qaala innee zaahibun ilaa Rabbee sa yahdeen
Translation
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
Verse 100
رَبِّ هَبۡ لِی مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ
Pronunciation
Rabbi hab lee minas saaliheen
Translation
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
Verse 101
فَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِیمࣲ
Pronunciation
Fabashsharnaahu bighulaamin haleem
Translation
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
Verse 102
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡیَ قَالَ یَـٰبُنَیَّ إِنِّیۤ أَرَىٰ فِی ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّیۤ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ یَـٰۤأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِیۤ إِن شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Falamma balagha ma'a hus sa'ya qaala yaa buniya inneee araa fil manaami anneee azbahuka fanzur maazaa taraa; qaala yaaa abatif 'al maa tu'maru satajidunee in shaaa'allaahu minas saabireen
Translation
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion, he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allah wills, of the steadfast."
Verse 103
فَلَمَّاۤ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِینِ
Pronunciation
Falammaaa aslamaa wa tallahoo liljabeen
Translation
And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead,
Verse 104
وَنَـٰدَیۡنَـٰهُ أَن یَـٰۤإِبۡرَ ٰهِیمُ
Pronunciation
Wa naadainaahu ai yaaaa Ibraheem
Translation
We called to him, "O Abraham,
Verse 105
قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡیَاۤۚ إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Qad saddaqtar ru'yaa; innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Translation
You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Verse 106
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰۤؤُا۟ ٱلۡمُبِینُ
Pronunciation
Inna haazaa lahuwal balaaa'ul mubeen
Translation
Indeed, this was the clear trial.
Verse 107
وَفَدَیۡنَـٰهُ بِذِبۡحٍ عَظِیمࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa fadainaahu bizibhin 'azeem
Translation
And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
Verse 108
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡـَٔاخِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
Translation
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Verse 109
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ
Pronunciation
Salaamun 'alaaa Ibraaheem
Translation
"Peace upon Abraham."
Verse 110
كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Verse 111
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
Translation
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Verse 112
وَبَشَّرۡنَـٰهُ بِإِسۡحَـٰقَ نَبِیࣰّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa bashsharnaahu bi Ishaaqa Nabiyayam minas saaliheen
Translation
And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.
Verse 113
وَبَـٰرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ وَعَلَىٰۤ إِسۡحَـٰقَۚ وَمِن ذُرِّیَّتِهِمَا مُحۡسِنࣱ وَظَالِمࣱ لِّنَفۡسِهِۦ مُبِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa baaraknaa 'alaihi wa 'alaaa Ishaaq; wa min zurriyya tihimaa muhsinunw wa zaalimul linafshihee mubeen
Translation
And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself.
Verse 114
وَلَقَدۡ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad mananna alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
Translation
And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.
Verse 115
وَنَجَّیۡنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوۡمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلۡكَرۡبِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ
Pronunciation
Wa najjainaahumaa wa qawmahumaa minal karbil 'azeem
Translation
And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,
Verse 116
وَنَصَرۡنَـٰهُمۡ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa nasarnaahum fakaanoo humul ghaalibeen
Translation
And We supported them so it was they who overcame.
Verse 117
وَءَاتَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَبِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa aatainaahumal Kitaabal mustabeen
Translation
And We gave them the explicit Scripture,
Verse 118
وَهَدَیۡنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَ ٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِیمَ
Pronunciation
Wa hadainaahumus Siraatal Mustaqeem
Translation
And We guided them on the straight path.
Verse 119
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمَا فِی ٱلۡـَٔاخِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa taraknaa 'alaihimaa fil aakhireen
Translation
And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:
Verse 120
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ
Pronunciation
Salaamun 'alaa Moosaa wa Haaroon
Translation
"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."
Verse 121
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Verse 122
إِنَّهُمَا مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innahumaa min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
Translation
Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.
Verse 123
وَإِنَّ إِلۡیَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa inna Ilyaasa laminal mursaleen
Translation
And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,
Verse 124
إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦۤ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
Pronunciation
Iz qaala liqawmiheee alaa tattaqoon
Translation
When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allah?
Verse 125
أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَـٰلِقِینَ
Pronunciation
Atad'oona Ba'lanw wa tazaroona ahsanal khaaliqeen
Translation
Do you call upon Ba'l and leave the best of creators -
Verse 126
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمۡ وَرَبَّ ءَابَاۤىِٕكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ
Pronunciation
Allaaha Rabbakum wa Rabba aabaaa'ikumul awwaleen
Translation
Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"
Verse 127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ
Pronunciation
Fakazzaboohu fa inna hum lamuhdaroon
Translation
And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],
Verse 128
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ
Pronunciation
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Translation
Except the chosen servants of Allah.
Verse 129
وَتَرَكۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ فِی ٱلۡـَٔاخِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa taraknaa 'alaihi fil aakhireen
Translation
And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
Verse 130
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰۤ إِلۡ یَاسِینَ
Pronunciation
Salaamun 'alaaa Ilyaaseen
Translation
"Peace upon Elias."
Verse 131
إِنَّا كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innaa kazaalika najzil muhsineen
Translation
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
Verse 132
إِنَّهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Innahoo min 'ibaadinal mu'mineen
Translation
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
Verse 133
وَإِنَّ لُوطࣰا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa inna Lootal laminal mursaleen
Translation
And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.
Verse 134
إِذۡ نَجَّیۡنَـٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥۤ أَجۡمَعِینَ
Pronunciation
Iz najjainaahu wa ahlahooo ajma'een
Translation
[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,
Verse 135
إِلَّا عَجُوزࣰا فِی ٱلۡغَـٰبِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Illaa 'ajoozan fil ghaabireen
Translation
Except his wife among people who remained [with the evildoers].
Verse 136
ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡـَٔاخَرِینَ
Pronunciation
Summa dammarnal aakhareen
Translation
Then We destroyed the others.
Verse 137
وَإِنَّكُمۡ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَیۡهِم مُّصۡبِحِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa innakum latamurroona 'alaihim musbiheen
Translation
And indeed, you pass by them in the morning
Verse 138
وَبِٱلَّیۡلِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa billail; afalaa ta'qiloon
Translation
And at night. Then will you not use reason?
Verse 139
وَإِنَّ یُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa inna Yoonusa laminal mursaleen
Translation
And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.
Verse 140
إِذۡ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ
Pronunciation
Iz abaqa ilal fulkil mash hoon
Translation
[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.
Verse 141
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُدۡحَضِینَ
Pronunciation
Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhadeen
Translation
And he drew lots and was among the losers.
Verse 142
فَٱلۡتَقَمَهُ ٱلۡحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِیمࣱ
Pronunciation
Faltaqamahul hootu wa huwa muleem
Translation
Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.
Verse 143
فَلَوۡلَاۤ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحِینَ
Pronunciation
Falaw laaa annahoo kaana minal musabbiheen
Translation
And had he not been of people who exalt Allah,
Verse 144
لَلَبِثَ فِی بَطۡنِهِۦۤ إِلَىٰ یَوۡمِ یُبۡعَثُونَ
Pronunciation
Lalabisa fee batniheee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon
Translation
He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.
Verse 145
۞ فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُ بِٱلۡعَرَاۤءِ وَهُوَ سَقِیمࣱ
Pronunciation
Fanabaznaahu bil'araaa'i wa huwa saqeem
Translation
But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.
Verse 146
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا عَلَیۡهِ شَجَرَةࣰ مِّن یَقۡطِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa ambatnaa 'alaihi shajaratam mai yaqteen
Translation
And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.
Verse 147
وَأَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلۡفٍ أَوۡ یَزِیدُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa arsalnaahu ilaa mi'ati alfin aw yazeedoon
Translation
And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.
Verse 148
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعۡنَـٰهُمۡ إِلَىٰ حِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Fa aamanoo famatta' naahum ilaa heen
Translation
And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.
Verse 149
فَٱسۡتَفۡتِهِمۡ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلۡبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلۡبَنُونَ
Pronunciation
Fastaftihim ali Rabbikal banaatu wa lahumul banoon
Translation
So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
Verse 150
أَمۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةَ إِنَـٰثࣰا وَهُمۡ شَـٰهِدُونَ
Pronunciation
Am khalaqnal malaaa'i kata inaasanw wa hm shaahidoon
Translation
Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"
Verse 151
أَلَاۤ إِنَّهُم مِّنۡ إِفۡكِهِمۡ لَیَقُولُونَ
Pronunciation
Alaaa innahum min ifkihim la yaqooloon
Translation
Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,
Verse 152
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ
Pronunciation
Waladal laahu wa innhum lakaaziboon
Translation
" Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.
Verse 153
أَصۡطَفَى ٱلۡبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلۡبَنِینَ
Pronunciation
Astafal banaati 'alal baneen
Translation
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
Verse 154
مَا لَكُمۡ كَیۡفَ تَحۡكُمُونَ
Pronunciation
Maa lakum kaifa tahkumoon
Translation
What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?
Verse 155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Pronunciation
Afalaa tazakkaroon
Translation
Then will you not be reminded?
Verse 156
أَمۡ لَكُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنࣱ مُّبِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Am lakum sultaanum mubeen
Translation
Or do you have a clear authority?
Verse 157
فَأۡتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمۡ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِینَ
Pronunciation
Faatoo bi Kitaabikum in kuntum saadiqeen
Translation
Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.
Verse 158
وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَیۡنَهُۥ وَبَیۡنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ نَسَبࣰاۚ وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمَتِ ٱلۡجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمُحۡضَرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa ja'aloo bainahoo wa bainal jinnati nasabaa; wa laqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon
Translation
And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment].
Verse 159
سُبۡحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ
Pronunciation
Subhaanal laahi 'ammaa yasifoon
Translation
Exalted is Allah above what they describe,
Verse 160
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ
Pronunciation
Illaa 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Translation
Except the chosen servants of Allah [who do not share in that sin].
Verse 161
فَإِنَّكُمۡ وَمَا تَعۡبُدُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa innakum wa maa ta'ubdoon
Translation
So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,
Verse 162
مَاۤ أَنتُمۡ عَلَیۡهِ بِفَـٰتِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Maaa antum 'alaihi befaaatineen
Translation
You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him
Verse 163
إِلَّا مَنۡ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلۡجَحِیمِ
Pronunciation
Illaa man huwa saalil jaheem
Translation
Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.
Verse 164
وَمَا مِنَّاۤ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامࣱ مَّعۡلُومࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa maa minnasa illaa lahoo maqaamum ma'loom
Translation
[The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
Verse 165
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلصَّاۤفُّونَ
Pronunciation
Wa innaa llanah nus saaffoon
Translation
And indeed, we are people who line up [for prayer].
Verse 166
وَإِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُسَبِّحُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa innaa lanah nul musabbihoon
Translation
And indeed, we are people who exalt Allah."
Verse 167
وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَیَقُولُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa in kaanoo la yaqooloon
Translation
And indeed, the disbelievers used to say,
Verse 168
لَوۡ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكۡرࣰا مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِینَ
Pronunciation
Law anna 'indana zikram minal awwaleen
Translation
"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,
Verse 169
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُخۡلَصِینَ
Pronunciation
Lakunna 'ibaadal laahil mukhlaseen
Translation
We would have been the chosen servants of Allah."
Verse 170
فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦۖ فَسَوۡفَ یَعۡلَمُونَ
Pronunciation
Fakafaroo bihee fasawfa ya'lamoon
Translation
But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know.
Verse 171
وَلَقَدۡ سَبَقَتۡ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad sabaqat Kalimatunaa li'ibaadinal mursa leen
Translation
And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,
Verse 172
إِنَّهُمۡ لَهُمُ ٱلۡمَنصُورُونَ
Pronunciation
Innaa hum lahumul mansooroon
Translation
[That] indeed, they would be those given victory
Verse 173
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلۡغَـٰلِبُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa inna jundana lahumul ghaaliboon
Translation
And [that] indeed, Our soldiers will be people who overcome.
Verse 174
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Fatawalla 'anhum hatta heen
Translation
So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time.
Verse 175
وَأَبۡصِرۡهُمۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa absirhum fasawfa yubsiroon
Translation
And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.
Verse 176
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ
Pronunciation
Afabi'azaabinaa yasta'jiloon
Translation
Then for Our punishment are they impatient?
Verse 177
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمۡ فَسَاۤءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِینَ
Pronunciation
Fa izaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaaa'a sabaahul munzareen
Translation
But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of people who were warned.
Verse 178
وَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa tawalla 'anhum hattaa heen
Translation
And leave them for a time.
Verse 179
وَأَبۡصِرۡ فَسَوۡفَ یُبۡصِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa absir fasawfa yubsiroon
Translation
And see, for they are going to see.
Verse 180
سُبۡحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلۡعِزَّةِ عَمَّا یَصِفُونَ
Pronunciation
Subhaana Rabbika Rabbil 'izzati 'amma yasifoon
Translation
Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.
Verse 181
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِینَ

Wa salaamun 'alalmursaleen
Translation
And peace upon the messengers.

وَٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ

Walhamdu lillaahi Rabbil 'aalameen
