سُورَةُ الذَّارِيَاتِ
About Adh-Dhaariyat
The Winnowing Winds • Meccan • 60 verses
Verse 1
وَٱلذَّ ٰرِیَـٰتِ ذَرۡوࣰا
Pronunciation
Waz-zaariyaati zarwaa
Translation
By those [winds] scattering [dust] dispersing
Verse 2
فَٱلۡحَـٰمِلَـٰتِ وِقۡرࣰا
Pronunciation
Falhaamilaati wiqraa
Translation
And those [clouds] carrying a load [of water]
Verse 3
فَٱلۡجَـٰرِیَـٰتِ یُسۡرࣰا
Pronunciation
Faljaariyaati yusraa
Translation
And those [ships] sailing with ease
Verse 4
فَٱلۡمُقَسِّمَـٰتِ أَمۡرًا
Pronunciation
Falmuqassimaati amraa
Translation
And those [angels] apportioning [each] matter,
Verse 5
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقࣱ
Pronunciation
Innamaa too'adoona la-saadiq
Translation
Indeed, what you are promised is true.
Verse 6
وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّینَ لَوَ ٰقِعࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa innad deena la waaqi'
Translation
And indeed, the recompense is to occur.
Verse 7
وَٱلسَّمَاۤءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡحُبُكِ
Pronunciation
Wassamaaa'i zaatil hubuk
Translation
By the heaven containing pathways,
Verse 8
إِنَّكُمۡ لَفِی قَوۡلࣲ مُّخۡتَلِفࣲ
Pronunciation
Innakum lafee qawlim mukhtalif
Translation
Indeed, you are in differing speech.
Verse 9
یُؤۡفَكُ عَنۡهُ مَنۡ أُفِكَ
Pronunciation
Yu'faku 'anhu man ufik
Translation
Deluded away from the Qur'an is he who is deluded.
Verse 10
قُتِلَ ٱلۡخَرَّ ٰصُونَ
Pronunciation
Qutilal kharraasoon
Translation
Destroyed are the falsifiers
Verse 11
ٱلَّذِینَ هُمۡ فِی غَمۡرَةࣲ سَاهُونَ
Pronunciation
Allazeena hum fee ghamratin saahoon
Translation
Who are within a flood [of confusion] and heedless.
Verse 12
یَسۡـَٔلُونَ أَیَّانَ یَوۡمُ ٱلدِّینِ
Pronunciation
Yas'aloona ayyaana yawmud Deen
Translation
They ask, "When is the Day of Recompense?"
Verse 13
یَوۡمَ هُمۡ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ یُفۡتَنُونَ
Pronunciation
Yawma hum 'alan naari yuftanoon
Translation
[It is] the Day they will be tormented over the Fire
Verse 14
ذُوقُوا۟ فِتۡنَتَكُمۡ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِی كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ
Pronunciation
Zooqoo fitnatakum haa zal lazee kuntum bihee tas ta'jiloon
Translation
[And will be told], "Taste your torment. This is that for which you were impatient."
Verse 15
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُیُونٍ
Pronunciation
Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa 'uyoon
Translation
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs,
Verse 16
ءَاخِذِینَ مَاۤ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَبۡلَ ذَ ٰلِكَ مُحۡسِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Aakhizeena maaa aataahum Rabbuhum; innahum kaanoo qabla zaalika muhsineen
Translation
Accepting what their Lord has given them. Indeed, they were before that doers of good.
Verse 17
كَانُوا۟ قَلِیلࣰا مِّنَ ٱلَّیۡلِ مَا یَهۡجَعُونَ
Pronunciation
kaanoo qaleelam minal laili maa yahja'oon
Translation
They used to sleep but little of the night,
Verse 18
وَبِٱلۡأَسۡحَارِ هُمۡ یَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa bilashaari hum yastaghfiroon
Translation
And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness,
Verse 19
وَفِیۤ أَمۡوَ ٰلِهِمۡ حَقࣱّ لِّلسَّاۤىِٕلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ
Pronunciation
Wa feee amwaalihim haqqul lissaaa'ili walmahroom
Translation
And from their properties was [given] the right of the [needy] petitioner and the deprived.
Verse 20
وَفِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ءَایَـٰتࣱ لِّلۡمُوقِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa fil ardi aayaatul lilmooqineen
Translation
And on the earth are signs for the certain [in faith]
Verse 21
وَفِیۤ أَنفُسِكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa feee anfusikum; afalaa tubsiroon
Translation
And in yourselves. Then will you not see?
Verse 22
وَفِی ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ رِزۡقُكُمۡ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa fissamaaa'i rizqukum wa maa too'adoon
Translation
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
Verse 23
فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقࣱّ مِّثۡلَ مَاۤ أَنَّكُمۡ تَنطِقُونَ
Pronunciation
Fawa Rabbis samaaa'i wal ardi innahoo lahaqqum misla maa annakum tantiqoon
Translation
Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth - just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.
Verse 24
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِیثُ ضَیۡفِ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِینَ
Pronunciation
Hal ataaka hadeesu daifi Ibraaheemal mukrameen
Translation
Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? -
Verse 25
إِذۡ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَیۡهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمࣰاۖ قَالَ سَلَـٰمࣱ قَوۡمࣱ مُّنكَرُونَ
Pronunciation
Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala salaamun qawmum munkaroon
Translation
When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown.
Verse 26
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰۤ أَهۡلِهِۦ فَجَاۤءَ بِعِجۡلࣲ سَمِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Faraagha ilaaa ahlihee fajaaa'a bi'ijlin sameen
Translation
Then he went to his family and came with a fat [roasted] calf
Verse 27
فَقَرَّبَهُۥۤ إِلَیۡهِمۡ قَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
Pronunciation
Faqarrabahooo ilaihim qaala alaa taakuloon
Translation
And placed it near them; he said, "Will you not eat?"
Verse 28
فَأَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِیفَةࣰۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفۡۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِیمࣲ
Pronunciation
Fa awjasa minhm khee fatan qaaloo laa takhaf wa bashsharoohu bighulaamin 'aleem
Translation
And he felt from them apprehension. They said, "Fear not," and gave him good tidings of a learned boy.
Verse 29
فَأَقۡبَلَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ فِی صَرَّةࣲ فَصَكَّتۡ وَجۡهَهَا وَقَالَتۡ عَجُوزٌ عَقِیمࣱ
Pronunciation
Fa aqbalatim ra-atuhoo fee sarratin fasakkat wajhahaa wa qaalat 'ajoozun 'aqeem
Translation
And his wife approached with a cry [of alarm] and struck her face and said, "[I am] a barren old woman!"
Verse 30
قَالُوا۟ كَذَ ٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡحَكِیمُ ٱلۡعَلِیمُ
Pronunciation
Qaaloo kazaaliki qaala Rabbuki innahoo huwal hakeemul 'aleem
Translation
They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing."
Verse 31
۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَیُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
Pronunciation
Qaala famaa khatbukum ayyuhal mursaloon
Translation
[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"
Verse 32
قَالُوۤا۟ إِنَّاۤ أُرۡسِلۡنَاۤ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمࣲ مُّجۡرِمِینَ
Pronunciation
Qaalooo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen
Translation
They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals
Verse 33
لِنُرۡسِلَ عَلَیۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةࣰ مِّن طِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Linursila 'alaihim hijaa ratam min teen
Translation
To send down upon them stones of clay,
Verse 34
مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِینَ
Pronunciation
Musawwamatan 'inda rabbika lilmusrifeen
Translation
Marked in the presence of your Lord for the transgressors."
Verse 35
فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مَن كَانَ فِیهَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Fa akhrajnaa man kaana feehaa minal mu'mineen
Translation
So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers.
Verse 36
فَمَا وَجَدۡنَا فِیهَا غَیۡرَ بَیۡتࣲ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِینَ
Pronunciation
Famaa wajadnaa feehaa ghaira baitim minal muslimeen
Translation
And We found not within them other than a [single] house of Muslims.
Verse 37
وَتَرَكۡنَا فِیهَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ لِّلَّذِینَ یَخَافُونَ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِیمَ
Pronunciation
Wa taraknaa feehaaa aayatal lillazeena yakhaafoonal 'azaabal aleem
Translation
And We left in it a sign for people who fear the painful punishment.
Verse 38
وَفِی مُوسَىٰۤ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِسُلۡطَـٰنࣲ مُّبِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa fee Moosaaa iz arsalnaahu ilaa Fir'wna bisultaa nim mubeen
Translation
And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority.
Verse 39
فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكۡنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَـٰحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونࣱ
Pronunciation
Fatawalla biruknihee wa qaala saahirun aw majnoon
Translation
But he turned away with his supporters and said," A magician or a madman."
Verse 40
فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذۡنَـٰهُمۡ فِی ٱلۡیَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِیمࣱ
Pronunciation
Fa akhaznaahu wa junoo dahoo fanabaznaahum fil yammi wa huwa muleem
Translation
So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy.
Verse 41
وَفِی عَادٍ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمُ ٱلرِّیحَ ٱلۡعَقِیمَ
Pronunciation
Wa fee 'Aadin iz arsalnaa 'alaihimur reehal'aqeem
Translation
And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind.
Verse 42
مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَیۡءٍ أَتَتۡ عَلَیۡهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتۡهُ كَٱلرَّمِیمِ
Pronunciation
Maa tazaru min shai'in atat 'alaihi illaa ja'alat hu karrameem
Translation
It left nothing of what it came upon but that it made it like disintegrated ruins.
Verse 43
وَفِی ثَمُودَ إِذۡ قِیلَ لَهُمۡ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِینࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa fee Samooda iz qeela lahum tamatta''oo hattaa heen
Translation
And in Thamud, when it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a time."
Verse 44
فَعَتَوۡا۟ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمۡ یَنظُرُونَ
Pronunciation
Fa'ataw 'an amri Rabbihim fa akhazal humus saa'iqatu wa hum yanzuroon
Translation
But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on.
Verse 45
فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِیَامࣲ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِینَ
Pronunciation
Famas tataa'oo min qiyaaminw wa maa kaanoo muntasireen
Translation
And they were unable to arise, nor could they defend themselves.
Verse 46
وَقَوۡمَ نُوحࣲ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ قَوۡمࣰا فَـٰسِقِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa qawma Noohim min qablu innahum kaano qawman faasiqeen
Translation
And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient.
Verse 47
وَٱلسَّمَاۤءَ بَنَیۡنَـٰهَا بِأَیۡی۟دࣲ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ
Pronunciation
Wassamaaa'a banainaa haa bi aydinw wa innaa lamoosi'oon
Translation
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander.
Verse 48
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فَرَشۡنَـٰهَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَـٰهِدُونَ
Pronunciation
Wal arda farashnaahaa fani'mal maahidoon
Translation
And the earth We have spread out, and excellent is the preparer.
Verse 49
وَمِن كُلِّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَیۡنِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ
Pronunciation
Wa min kulli shai'in khalaqnaa zawjaini la'allakum tazakkaroon
Translation
And of all things We created two mates; perhaps you will remember.
Verse 50
فَفِرُّوۤا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّی لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Fafirrooo ilal laahi innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen
Translation
So flee to Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.
Verse 51
وَلَا تَجۡعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَۖ إِنِّی لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِیرࣱ مُّبِینࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa laa taj'aloo ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhara innee lakum minhu nazeerum mubeen
Translation
And do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity. Indeed, I am to you from Him a clear warner.
Verse 52
كَذَ ٰلِكَ مَاۤ أَتَى ٱلَّذِینَ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٌ
Pronunciation
Kazaalika maaa atal lazeena min qablihim mir Rasoolin illaa qaaloo saahirun aw majnoon
Translation
Similarly, there came not to those before them any messenger except that they said, "A magician or a madman."
Verse 53
أَتَوَاصَوۡا۟ بِهِۦۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمࣱ طَاغُونَ
Pronunciation
Atawaasaw bih; bal hum qawmun taaghoon
Translation
Did they suggest it to them? Rather, they [themselves] are a transgressing people.
Verse 54
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ فَمَاۤ أَنتَ بِمَلُومࣲ
Pronunciation
Fatawalla 'anhum famaaa anta bimaloom
Translation
So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed.
Verse 55
وَذَكِّرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِینَ
Pronunciation
Wa zakkir fa innaz zikraa tanfa'ul mu'mineen
Translation
And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.
Verse 56
وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِیَعۡبُدُونِ
Pronunciation
Wa maa khalaqtul jinna wal insa illaa liya'budoon
Translation
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
Verse 57
مَاۤ أُرِیدُ مِنۡهُم مِّن رِّزۡقࣲ وَمَاۤ أُرِیدُ أَن یُطۡعِمُونِ
Pronunciation
Maaa ureedu minhum mir rizqinw wa maaa ureedu anyyut'imoon
Translation
I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed Me.
Verse 58
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلۡقُوَّةِ ٱلۡمَتِینُ
Pronunciation
Innal laaha Huwar Razzaaqu Zul Quwwatil Mateen
Translation
Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.
Verse 59
فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِینَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبࣰا مِّثۡلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصۡحَـٰبِهِمۡ فَلَا یَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ
Pronunciation
Fa inna lillazeena zalamoo zanoobam misla zanoobi ashaabihim falaa yasta'jiloon
Translation
And indeed, for people who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me.
Verse 60
فَوَیۡلࣱ لِّلَّذِینَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن یَوۡمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِی یُوعَدُونَ
Pronunciation
Fawailul lillazeena kafaroo miny yawmihimul lazee yoo'adoon
Translation
And woe to people who have disbelieved from their Day which they are promised.
