The Moon • Meccan • 55 verses
Verse 1
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ
Pronunciation
Iqtarabatis Saa'atu wsan shaqqal qamar
Translation
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].
Verse 2
وَإِن یَرَوۡا۟ ءَایَةࣰ یُعۡرِضُوا۟ وَیَقُولُوا۟ سِحۡرࣱ مُّسۡتَمِرࣱّ
Pronunciation
Wa iny yaraw aayatany yu'ridoo wa yaqooloo sihrum mustamirr
Translation
And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."
Verse 3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوۤا۟ أَهۡوَاۤءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرࣲ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ
Pronunciation
Wa kazzaboo wattaba'ooo ahwaaa'ahum; wa kullu amrim mustaqirr
Translation
And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.
Verse 4
وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَاۤءِ مَا فِیهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad jaaa'ahum minal ambaaa'i maa feehi muzdajar
Translation
And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -
Verse 5
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَـٰلِغَةࣱۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
Pronunciation
Hikmatum baalighatun famaa tughnin nuzur
Translation
Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].
Verse 6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ یَوۡمَ یَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَیۡءࣲ نُّكُرٍ
Pronunciation
Fatawalla 'anhum; yawma yad'ud daa'i ilaa shai 'in nukur
Translation
So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,
Verse 7
خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَـٰرُهُمۡ یَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادࣱ مُّنتَشِرࣱ
Pronunciation
khushsha'an absaaruhum yakrujoona minal ajdaasi ka annahum jaraadum muntashir
Translation
Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,
Verse 8
مُّهۡطِعِینَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ یَقُولُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا یَوۡمٌ عَسِرࣱ
Pronunciation
Muhti'eena ilad daa'i yaqoolul kafiroona haazaa yawmun 'asir
Translation
Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."
Verse 9
۞ كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحࣲ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجۡنُونࣱ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ
Pronunciation
Kazzabat qablahum qawmu Noohin fakazzaboo 'abdanaa wa qaaloo majnoo nunw wazdujir
Translation
The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.
Verse 10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥۤ أَنِّی مَغۡلُوبࣱ فَٱنتَصِرۡ
Pronunciation
Fada'aa Rabbahooo annee maghloobun fantasir
Translation
So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."
Verse 11
فَفَتَحۡنَاۤ أَبۡوَ ٰبَ ٱلسَّمَاۤءِ بِمَاۤءࣲ مُّنۡهَمِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Fafatahnaaa abwaabas sa maaa'i bimaa'im munhamir
Translation
Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down
Verse 12
وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُیُونࣰا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَاۤءُ عَلَىٰۤ أَمۡرࣲ قَدۡ قُدِرَ
Pronunciation
Wa fajjamal arda 'uyoonan faltaqal maaa'u 'alaaa amrin qad qudir
Translation
And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.
Verse 13
وَحَمَلۡنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَ ٰحࣲ وَدُسُرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa hamalnaahu 'alaa zaati alwaahinw wa dusur
Translation
And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,
Verse 14
تَجۡرِی بِأَعۡیُنِنَا جَزَاۤءࣰ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
Pronunciation
Tajree bi a'yuninaa jazaaa 'al liman kaana kufir
Translation
Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.
Verse 15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَـٰهَاۤ ءَایَةࣰ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqat taraknaahaad aayatan fahal mim muddakir
Translation
And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 16
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
Verse 17
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mimmuddakir
Translation
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 18
كَذَّبَتۡ عَادࣱ فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
Kazzabat 'Aadun fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
Verse 19
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ رِیحࣰا صَرۡصَرࣰا فِی یَوۡمِ نَحۡسࣲ مُّسۡتَمِرࣲّ
Pronunciation
Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim reehan sarsaran fee Yawmi nahsim mustamirr
Translation
Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,
Verse 20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلࣲ مُّنقَعِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Tanzi;un naasa ka anna huma'jaazu nakhlim munqa'ir
Translation
Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.
Verse 21
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
'Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
Verse 22
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad yassamal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir
Translation
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 23
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Pronunciation
Kazzabat Samoodu binnuzur
Translation
Thamud denied the warning
Verse 24
فَقَالُوۤا۟ أَبَشَرࣰا مِّنَّا وَ ٰحِدࣰا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥۤ إِنَّاۤ إِذࣰا لَّفِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرٍ
Pronunciation
Faqaalooo a-basharam minnaa waahidan nattabi'uhooo innaa izal lafee dalaalinw wa su'ur
Translation
And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.
Verse 25
أَءُلۡقِیَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَیۡهِ مِنۢ بَیۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرࣱ
Pronunciation
'A-ulqiyaz zikru 'alaihi mim baininaa bal huwa kazzaabun ashir
Translation
Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."
Verse 26
سَیَعۡلَمُونَ غَدࣰا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ
Pronunciation
Sa-ya'lamoona ghadam manil kazzaabul ashir
Translation
They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.
Verse 27
إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةࣰ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ
Pronunciation
Innaa mursilun naaqati fitnatal lahum fartaqibhum wastabir
Translation
Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.
Verse 28
وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَاۤءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَیۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبࣲ مُّحۡتَضَرࣱ
Pronunciation
Wa nabbi'hum annal maaa'a qismatum bainahum kullu shirbim muhtadar
Translation
And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].
Verse 29
فَنَادَوۡا۟ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
Pronunciation
Fanaadaw saahibahum fata'aataa fa'aqar
Translation
But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].
Verse 30
فَكَیۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
Fakaifa kaana 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.
Verse 31
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ صَیۡحَةࣰ وَ ٰحِدَةࣰ فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِیمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ
Pronunciation
Innaaa arsalnaa 'alaihim saihatanw waahidatan fakaano kahasheemil muhtazir
Translation
Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.
Verse 32
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad yassarnal quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir
Translation
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 33
كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Pronunciation
Kazzabat qawmu lootim binnuzur
Translation
The people of Lot denied the warning.
Verse 34
إِنَّاۤ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَیۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّاۤ ءَالَ لُوطࣲۖ نَّجَّیۡنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرࣲ
Pronunciation
Innaa arsalnaa 'alaihim haasiban illaaa aala Loot najjainaahum bisahar
Translation
Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn
Verse 35
نِّعۡمَةࣰ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَ ٰلِكَ نَجۡزِی مَن شَكَرَ
Pronunciation
Ni'matam min 'indinaa; kazaalika najzee man shakar
Translation
As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.
Verse 36
وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad anzarahum batshatanaa fatamaaraw binnuzur
Translation
And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.
Verse 37
وَلَقَدۡ رَ ٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَیۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَاۤ أَعۡیُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad raawadoohu 'andaifee fatamasnaaa a'yunahum fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."
Verse 38
وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابࣱ مُّسۡتَقِرࣱّ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad sabbahahum bukratan 'azaabum mustaqirr
Translation
And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.
Verse 39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِی وَنُذُرِ
Pronunciation
Fazooqoo 'azaabee wa nuzur
Translation
So taste My punishment and warning.
Verse 40
وَلَقَدۡ یَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad yassarnal Quraana liz zikri fahal mim muddakir
Translation
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 41
وَلَقَدۡ جَاۤءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad jaaa'a Aala Fir'awnan nuzur
Translation
And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.
Verse 42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔایَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَـٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِیزࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ
Pronunciation
Kazzaboo bi Aayaatinaa kullihaa fa akhaznaahum akhza 'azeezim muqtadir
Translation
They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.
Verse 43
أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَیۡرࣱ مِّنۡ أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَاۤءَةࣱ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ
Pronunciation
Akuffaarukum khairum min ulaaa'ikum am lakum baraaa'atun fiz Zubur
Translation
Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?
Verse 44
أَمۡ یَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِیعࣱ مُّنتَصِرࣱ
Pronunciation
Am yaqooloona nahnu jamee'um muntasir
Translation
Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?
Verse 45
سَیُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَیُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
Pronunciation
Sa yuhzamul jam'u wa yuwalloonad dubur
Translation
[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].
Verse 46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
Pronunciation
Balis Saa'atu maw'iduhum was Saa'atu adhaa wa amarr
Translation
But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.
Verse 47
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِینَ فِی ضَلَـٰلࣲ وَسُعُرࣲ
Pronunciation
Innal mujrimeena fee dalaalinw wa su'ur
Translation
Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.
Verse 48
یَوۡمَ یُسۡحَبُونَ فِی ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
Pronunciation
Yawma yushaboona fin Naari'alaa wujoohimim zooqoo massa saqar
Translation
The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."
Verse 49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَیۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرࣲ
Pronunciation
Innaa kulla shai'in khalaqnaahu biqadar
Translation
Indeed, all things We created with predestination.
Verse 50
وَمَاۤ أَمۡرُنَاۤ إِلَّا وَ ٰحِدَةࣱ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ
Pronunciation
Wa maaa amrunaaa illaa waahidatun kalamhim bilbasar
Translation
And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.
Verse 51
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَاۤ أَشۡیَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرࣲ
Pronunciation
Wa laqad ahlaknaaa ashyaa'akum fahal mim muddakir
Translation
And We have already destroyed your kinds, so is there any who will remember?
Verse 52
وَكُلُّ شَیۡءࣲ فَعَلُوهُ فِی ٱلزُّبُرِ
Pronunciation
Wa kullu shai'in fa'aloohu fiz Zubur
Translation
And everything they did is in written records.
Verse 53
وَكُلُّ صَغِیرࣲ وَكَبِیرࣲ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ
Pronunciation
Wa kullu sagheerinw wa kabeerim mustatar
Translation
And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.
Verse 54
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِینَ فِی جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَنَهَرࣲ
Pronunciation
Innal muttaqeena fee jannaatinw wa nahar
Translation
Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,
Verse 55
فِی مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِیكࣲ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ
Pronunciation
Fee maq'adi sidqin 'inda Maleekim Muqtadir
Translation
In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.
