Chapter 87 - The Most High - 19 verses
سُورَةُ الأَعۡلَىٰ
About Al-A'laa
The Most High • Meccan • 19 verses
Verse 1
سَبِّحِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡأَعۡلَى
Pronunciation
Sabbihisma Rabbikal A'laa
Translation
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
Verse 2
ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Pronunciation
Allazee khalaqa fasawwaa
Translation
Who created and proportioned
Verse 3
وَٱلَّذِی قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ
Pronunciation
Wallazee qaddara fahadaa
Translation
And who destined and [then] guided
Verse 4
وَٱلَّذِیۤ أَخۡرَجَ ٱلۡمَرۡعَىٰ
Pronunciation
Wallazeee akhrajal mar'aa
Translation
And who brings out the pasture
Verse 5
فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَاۤءً أَحۡوَىٰ
Pronunciation
Faja'alahoo ghusaaa'an ahwaa
Translation
And [then] makes it black stubble.
Verse 6
سَنُقۡرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰۤ
Pronunciation
Sanuqri'uka falaa tansaaa
Translation
We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget,
Verse 7
إِلَّا مَا شَاۤءَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ یَعۡلَمُ ٱلۡجَهۡرَ وَمَا یَخۡفَىٰ
Pronunciation
Illaa maa shaaa'al laah; innahoo ya'lamul jahra wa maa yakhfaa
Translation
Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.
Verse 8
وَنُیَسِّرُكَ لِلۡیُسۡرَىٰ
Pronunciation
Wa nu-yassiruka lilyusraa
Translation
And We will ease you toward ease.
Verse 9
فَذَكِّرۡ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ
Pronunciation
Fazakkir in nafa'atizzikraa
Translation
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;
Verse 10
سَیَذَّكَّرُ مَن یَخۡشَىٰ
Pronunciation
Sa yazzakkaru maiyakhshaa
Translation
He who fears [Allah] will be reminded.
Verse 11
وَیَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى
Pronunciation
Wa yatajannabuhal ashqaa
Translation
But the wretched one will avoid it -
Verse 12
ٱلَّذِی یَصۡلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ
Pronunciation
Allazee yaslan Naaral kubraa
Translation
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
Verse 13
ثُمَّ لَا یَمُوتُ فِیهَا وَلَا یَحۡیَىٰ
Pronunciation
Summa laa yamootu feehaa wa laa yahyaa
Translation
Neither dying in it nor living.
Verse 14
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ
Pronunciation
Qad aflaha man tazakkaa
Translation
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
Verse 15
وَذَكَرَ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ
Pronunciation
Wa zakaras ma Rabbihee fasallaa
Translation
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
Verse 16
بَلۡ تُؤۡثِرُونَ ٱلۡحَیَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡیَا
Pronunciation
Bal tu'siroonal hayaatad dunyaa
Translation
But you prefer the worldly life,
Verse 17
وَٱلۡـَٔاخِرَةُ خَیۡرࣱ وَأَبۡقَىٰۤ
Pronunciation
Wal Aakhiratu khairunw wa abqaa
Translation
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
Verse 18
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِی ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ
Pronunciation
Inna haazaa lafis suhu fil oolaa
Translation
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,
Verse 19
صُحُفِ إِبۡرَ ٰهِیمَ وَمُوسَىٰ
Pronunciation
Suhufi Ibraaheema wa Moosaa
Translation
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
